Yesterday, millions tuned in to watch the funeral of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and you will know if you came to listen to us that we streamed the funeral and halted service until 7pm as a mark of respect for the Duke. It was a saddening day for the nation, the Commonwealth - more importantly it was a deeply important day in history. Our hearts go out for the Royal family and HM Queen Elizabeth as they have lost a husband, best friend, confidant, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
I'm so sorry that I haven't been able to update the blog - it's been almost TWO MONTHS! Wow, can't let that happen again.
As some of our listeners know, I run Birds of a Feather Animal Rescue and I do the radio in the very little spare time I have. Baby birds are flying out of my ears, and I'm forever catching myself on the way out. It will be like this until approximately August - rescue is a tough and busy lifestyle. I say lifestyle because you never make any money from it so it cannot be called a career.
April's monthly specials are LGBTQ+ on Thursday's from 7pm and Peter's special on a Monday from 6pm is 'Hooked On Classics'!
Signs of Spring - 20/02/2021
Slowly but surely, the first signs of Spring are beginning to show. The grass is sprouting again, there are the first buds forming on the trees and the birds are singing their little hearts out! Robert's been out in the garden today, removing debris from last years growth and all the dead leaves from the ground. The ground has been turned over and the first potatoes have been planted. If everything goes to plan then they should (fingers crossed) be ready by June.
With a new month fast approaching, we will have new specials starting from Monday 1st March. We're not entirely sure on what they will be yet but our Country show was such a hit that it will be taking a permanent slot!
New Month, Same Problems - 04/02/2021
We're now in February, did anybody else think that January was 74 years long?! Four days in and we're having problems again. We're still recovering the thousands of tracks we lost mentioned in our last blog post, it never seems to stop. We're still stuck in lockdown which also doesn't appear to be getting lifted anytime soon. On the flip side of things, a new month brings new shows here at Listen UK Radio. Monday nights is our brand new country show, and then on Thursday's we're going back to the nineties so be sure to tune in to them shows as they're absolutely fantastic!
The Morning After The Night Before - 21/01/2021
Well, we have had a horrible past few days. Storm Christoff yesterday was something else, wasn't it?! Horrible winds, torrential downpours and then SNOW! It was something you'd read in the Bible in my opinion - I don't know about anyone else. Then, this morning we have had a power cut, wiping out a large proportion of our database, so we have to re-upload all of that very quickly because we only just managed to get my show ready in time! Roll on calmer weather and the sunshine!

12 Days In - 12/01/2021
Hi guys, it's Robert. First of all, Happy Birthday to our main host and founder Peter, who has reached the ripe old age of 51! We'll make sure that he gets tiddly tonight! We've got Concert night tomorrow (Wednesday) and I'm bringing you the best of the eighties on Thursday night live from 7pm! Well, we re in a national lockdown - once again, thanks Boris - so make sure that you're staying cheery. If you need any help in regards to Mental Health, give Samaritans a ring, or Mind! DO NOT SUFFER ALONE! We, as a country will beat this!
Happy New Year - 02/01/2021
First blog of 2021 and I keep writing 2020! So, Happy New Year from all of us here at Listen UK Radio! Tune in tonight from 7pm with all the best hits from Broadway! We hope that 2021 is a much better year for you all!
New Years Eve, Eve - 30/12/2020
I hope everyone has had a brilliant Christmas, and that jolly old Saint Nick has been to your houses! We've made the most of a bad situation here at Listen UK Radio. I do hope everyone that listens enjoyed Peter's VERY FIRST LIVE BROADCAST ON CHRISTMAS DAY. Whilst he was doing that, I was slaving away in the kitchen making sure the lazy sod (I'm joking!) was going to be well fed! Given the circumstances, everything was very jolly here - we hope the same applied to the rest of you! Don't forget, I'm back at 9pm on NYE until 11pm, playing all the bangers! Pete's back on at 11pm, playing everything else you could possibly wish for (my show is better than his)
Anyway, better go to sleep now!
Robert - (the best DJ here!)
5 days to go - 20/12/2020
It's the 20th of December now, under five days to go until Santa is breaking into all of our houses! I hope everyone is in the festive spirit despite governmental orders and issues regarding tiers - sorry for being in the fourth (and highest) tier London! We're live at 11:00 today with Christmas Choral, and then back at 19:00 with Christmas Brass on the Bandstand so be sure to tune in to them! I suppose I better write a full FESTIVE programme on the home page (urgh, more work for me). We're looking forward to Christmas this year at Listen UK Radio, especially after this year - we'll all be glad to see the rear end of 2020!
That's all folks!
Christmas Quiz Blog - 10/12/2020
Today was our first Christmas quiz, and it was actually quite hard to put together. Hopefully, next week will be a tad easier! Thanks to everyone who tuned in, the winner will be announced later this week. Did you know that Bethlehem meant 'house of meat' in Arabic? Did you know that Mistletoe means a stick of dung?
New Android Radio App goes Live - 08/12/2020
The New Listen UK Radio APP is now available for download for all Android Phones and Tablets. Use this link to be taken to the download page. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.radio.m12f6e0fbc
It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas Blog - 05/12/2020
Hope everyone is keeping well and making the most of the new tiered system introduced across England! We're in tier three over in Lancashire, so it's all misery and darkness for us. As you've probably noticed, we've started with our Christmas shows now - let us know what you think of them! Regular requests are still available too, for the Ebeneezer's out there. As well as the shows, we've custom-made our Christmas cards for everyone and Robert has been working hard on Christmas quizzes; festive prizes and has almost got all of his shopping done (he's cooking, I'm eating)!
We'll be live on-air with all the Christmas favourites on Thursday 24th December, but will have no programme on Christmas Day, as I believe it should be spent with family and loved ones (I love all of my listeners, but you know what I mean).
Have a jolly, jolly Christmas!
Signing off now, Peter
Quiz Night Blog 21/11/2020
Hello everyone, it's Robert. I'd like to say thank you to everyone that took part in our quiz on Thursday night. As my first time on-air I think I did okay. Having the Facebook Live Feed definitely threw a spanner in the works, despite having a lot of people tuning in for it - I kept forgetting to turn the microphone on! All I can say is, it was a rookie mistake! Janet from Liverpool won our first ever quiz scoring 46/56 and she has won a bottle of Pink Gin. It should have been Lemon but not to worry, the Pink is better in my opinion. Next week's quiz will be a tad easier for everyone with categories changing from 15 down to 10!
I'll leave you all to it, I hope you're all having a good night!

Lockdown and Mental Health Blog 18/11/2020
So, we're finishing the second week of National Lockdown in England, I'm so glad I have the station to help me cope - hopefully things will be okay come Christmas! I know a lot of people are struggling mentally with being confined to their own homes. The thought of being stuck at home, only being allowed out for essential shopping, exercise and other genuine reasons has left many a person feeling like a prisoner in their own home. We're always here for those needing a chat. You can contact us through any of our social media channels and also by phone.
If you're really struggling with mental health due to the restrictions, there are a lot of organisations you can speak to. Mind, Samaritans and the NHS are just a few.
